About

Concerned Citizens of Manteno/No Gotion Illinois (not for profit) was formed in opposition to Gotion’s $2 billion electric vehicle (EV) lithium battery manufacturing plant, which is slated to be located at 333 Spruce Street, Manteno, formerly the Kmart warehouse. We are represented by the Eckland and Blando law firm which also represents the people fighting the same plant in Michigan and a group that fought and stopped another plant in North Dakota.

Concerned Citizens of Manteno, concerned Michigan and North Dakota residents and a US House committee are questioning the substantial taxpayer funding granted to a company with ties to the Chinese Communist Party.

We strongly oppose taxpayer-funded subsidies going to any Gotion plant. $8,000,000,000 has been promised by the federal government, Governor Pritzker, Manteno Mayor Tim Nugent and Kankakee County Board Chairman Andy Wheeler, along with his county board members.

The human health risk to Manteno residents that a lithium battery plant poses and the hundreds of trucks carrying all the chemicals that will be needed daily is also of great concern to the Concerned Citizens of Manteno.

WE NEED YOUR HELP

In 2023, our elected officials cut a deal behind closed doors with Gotion, LLC to build an electric vehicle battery plant in Manteno, IL. This plant is estimated to receive over $7 billion in state and federal tax subsidies, and appallingly, Gotion is linked to the CCP and slave labor in China.

Taxpayers are subsidizing a national adversary tied to slave labor! We are fighting in court to stop the deal. So far, our small group has raised over $70,000 to fight this. We cannot do it alone! We need your help. Please donate whatever you can to our fight (donations are not tax deductible).
